ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION is continuing its acquisitions - it has taken over the Pilsen-based MOVO

The leading European manufacturer of rail vehicles ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION s.r.o. is continuing this year with acquisitions, which will allow the company to extend the portfolio of the ŠKODA Transportation Group. After the takeover of Pars nova in Šumperk in March and entrance into POLL (a Czech manufacturer of electronic systems for application in power electronics) in July, the Pilsen-based MOVO spol. s.r.o. is also to become part of the Transportation Group.
“We are continuing to develop a branch, which has a huge global potential. Škoda is currently the number one in Central Europe in the field of rail vehicles. MOVO suitably supplements and extends the competence of the transport engineering branch in Škoda and also increases our competitive ability,” said the Vice President of the Board of Directors of ŠKODA HOLDING a.s. and Managing Director of ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION Tomáš Krsek.

MOVO is a company, which is continuing in the very long tradition of railway workshops in Pilsen. It was created through privatisation of Železniční opravny a strojírny in 1993. The company has modern manufacturing halls at its disposal in order to ensure its main programme – repairs to passenger railway carriages. Modernised carriages meet all the requirements for high-speed and safe transportation of passengers. The company holds internationally acknowledged ISO 9001 quality certificates as well as other licences and certificates in the field of repair and modernisation of railway carriages, awarded by Czech Railways, Austrian Railways and the German Federal Rail Authority.

MOVO currently employs 400 people. Apart from modernisation of passenger railway carriages for railways in the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany, repairs are also carried out here to historical and special-purpose vehicles for private rail operators and replicas of their components are made here. The main manufacturing programme at MOVO is currently modernisation of Amee series vehicles. This concerns implementation of one of the largest jobs the company has ever gained over the course of its fifteen years in existence. In relation to this, MOVO concluded a contract last October with ŽOS Trnava on modernisation of twenty passenger railway carriages for Czech Railways as a subcontractor. The modernised vehicles have new air-conditioning, closed-system toilets, changes have been made to the interior and new paintwork has been added. Completion of the whole job is anticipated in December this year.

The Transportation Group of the Pilsen-based manufacturer is heading for the European market

Similarly to Pars nova, a. s., MOVO s. r. o., is to become part of the Transportation Group in terms of ŠKODA HOLDING, which includes the following companies in the Czech Republic: ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION (manufacturer of trams and locomotives), ŠKODA ELECTRIC (manufacturer of traction engines, drive systems and trolleybuses), ŠKODA VAGONKA (manufacturer of suburban train units and motorised vehicles), VÚKV (Research and Development Centre for Rail Vehicles), POLL (development of electronic systems for products in the field of transport engineering) and the following companies abroad: Sibelektroprivod (Russia), manufacturer of traction engines and drive systems) and GANZ-ŠKODA (Hungary), manufacturer of drive systems and trolleybuses.
