Multi-system multi-purpose locomotive for speed up to 200 km/h
Locomotive ŠKODA 109 E is intended for priority trains, where the locomotives power, speed and interoperability could be fully applied. Its design and livery was projected together with famous Porsche Design studio.
Locomotive ŠKODA 109 E is primarily intended for operation on tracks not only in Czech Republic, but on main corridors of European Union electrified with 3 kV DC, 25 kV/50 Hz AC and 15 kV/16,7 Hz AC systems. For maximal interoperability, the locomotive is fully ETCS-compatible.
Each of the two inverter boxes contains four pulse rectifiers, pulse brake inverters a four traction inverters. Water-cooled IGBT modules are used in the inverters. The traction transformer is switchable for 25 kV AC and 15 kV AC systems. During drive on 3 kV DC system, secondary traction coilings are utilized as inductors for the line filter. Locomotive 109 E computer control enables together with CRV and AVV systems multiple control from either one locomotive stand or driving car.
Four asynchronous traction motors with coiling connected to a double star provide nominal output 6400 kW, enabling the locomotive ŠKODA 109 E to easily reach speeds up to 200 km/h.
Locomotive ŠKODA 109 E is from the start designed with respect to the newest TSI safety standards. Not only because of it the locomotive complies with the most demanding European requests to railway operation safety.
