ANOTHER ŠKODA ELECTRIC SUCCESS IN ROMANIA

2020 / 08 / 06

Škoda Electric, a Škoda Transportation Group member, will supply the entire electrical equipment for a new trolleybus delivery to Romania. The Pilsen company will significantly participate in delivering a total of 23 new fully low-floor trolleybuses for the two Romanian cities of Ploiesti and Mediaș. Soon, trolleybuses entirely equipped with a Czech e-kit will be touring seven Romanian cities.

We are going to deliver twenty modern vehicles to Ploiesti containing our electrical equipment and we are also going to electrically equip an additional three vehicles in the city of Mediaș in Transylvania. These deliveries will be commencing in the first half of 2021,” explains Pavel Kuch, the Škoda Electric sales manager, adding: “Passengers can look forward to maximum comfort. The vehicles will be fully air-conditioned, meaning both the passenger compartment and the driver's cab.”

All 23 low-floor trolleybuses are twelve meters long. The vehicles are barrier-free and also include a wheelchair access platform. Additionally, the trolleybuses will house 35 seats, provide Wi-Fi access, a camera system and other passenger comfort facilities. Easier boarding and exiting will be possible thanks to the so-called kneeling, where the trolleybus tilts to the edge of the sidewalk. Škoda Electric is going to design and manufacture the entire electrical equipment for the vehicles, including the final trolleybus assembly and vehicle testing in Pilsen. Solaris is going to be the final supplier of these new trolleybuses to our Romanian customers.

In Romania, Škoda Electric has been doing well in recent years. “In total, more than 170 Škoda-equipped trolleybuses will be operated in Romania. Our vehicles are already successfully touring the streets of Cluj, Brasov, Timisoara, Galati or Baia Mare,” adds Pavel Kuch. Škoda Electric is the largest European trolleybus manufacturer. During its history of trolleybus production, it has supplied more than 14.5 thousand trolleybuses to both domestic and foreign markets. Czech trolleybuses are operating in about thirty countries around the world - in Europe, Asia and North America.
