EXPORT SUCCESS! ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION GROUP TO DELIVER TROLLEYBUSES WORTH HALF A BILLION TO SOFIA
Škoda Electric from Škoda Transportation group has recently achieved a significant export success. The company will supply thirty modern low-floor trolleybuses to the capital of Bulgaria for approximately 500 million crowns. Bulgaria will use funding from the European Union to buy the vehicles.
"This success in Bulgaria confirms that we are a European leader in the production of trolleybuses. Czech trolleybuses are currently operating in about thirty countries around the world. They have recently been delivered to the French cities of St. Etienne and Limoges, as well as Cluj, Romania," says Petr Brzezina, Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of Škoda Transportation group.
The transport company in Sofia will receive a fleet of 18-meter articulated Škoda 27 Tr vehicles with traction batteries. Thanks to this auxiliary drive, the trolleybuses can even run in places where there is no trolley line.
"We have been doing well on the Bulgarian market in recent years. We delivered fifty low-floor articulated trolleybuses to the capital Sofia worth 700 million crowns, and other vehicles can also be seen in other Bulgarian cities - Burgas, Varna, Stara Zagora and Pleven. This is a very promising market, where we also see potential in the tram or metro train market." adds Zdeněk Majer, Member of the Board of Directors and Senior Vice President of Sales of Škoda Transportation group.
The new articulated trolleybuses for Sofia can accommodate up to 123 passengers. "The vehicles have comfortable, modern equipment, such as an advanced diagnostics system with remote data transmission, or a passenger information system. The vehicles naturally contain air conditioning, which passengers and drivers will especially appreciate in the summer months." adds Senior Sales Manager of Škoda Electric, Petr Kasenčák.
