The ForCity Smart Tram for Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH is a low-floor, bi-directional tram with a pivoting bogie and a 1000 mm gauge. Škoda Transportation will produce these trams in three lengths with the same technical design - three-section, four-section and six-section. This will include 31 thirty-meter trams (30,5 m), 37 forty-meter trams (40,65 m) and 12 sixty-meter trams (58,25 m).
The trams will be equipped with state-of-the-art information systems, cameras and many other innovations. The maximum operating speed of the trams will be 80 km/h. Vehicles will also provide barrier-free access for wheelchair users and baby prams.
The trams will be operated in Mannheim, Heidelberg and Ludwigshafen, which are cities located in three different federal states of Germany, namely Baden-Württemberg, Hessen and Rhineland-Palatinate. The first vehicles will be deployed in early 2021.
