The Škoda Transportation group supports particularly sports activities, both professional and amateur ones. This is because sport together with cultural activities creates a national identity, and Škoda Transportation as an exclusively Czech company feels certain responsibility and obligation to contribute to the making of this identity.
Czech Republic Representation in Ice Hockey
Škoda Transportation has been one of the main partners of the men’srepresentation in ice hockey for a long time. The Škoda company tries to comprehensively support our most popular sport in which the Czech Republic has achieved excellent results over many years. Therefore Škoda Transportation group does not focus only on support of the A representation, but it is also the general partner of several junior age representation categories. Škoda Transportation supports junior categories U20, U17 and U16 and the daughter company Pars supports categories U19, U18 and the media campaign “We Support Junior Ice Hockey”. The group has also supported the participation of our young ice hockey talents in the World U20 Junior Championship 2015 in the Canadian cities of Toronto and Montreal and the World U18 Junior Championship 2015 in Switzerland.
The Škoda Transportation group, however, does not devote itself solely to the support of men’s ice hockey. Škoda Vagonka is currently the general partner of women’s A representation and also of women’s junior representation. Among others, it will take part in sponsoring the World Championship 2015 in women’s ice hockey in France.
Ice Hockey Extraliga
Apart from the ice hockey representation, principal sponsorship activities include also support of the ice hockey “extraliga” (ELH) - Škoda Vagonka is the official partner of the ice hockey “extraliga”. Škoda Transportation also supports the prestigious poll “Zlatá hokejka” (Golden Hockey Stick) which officially awards prizes to the best Czech hockey players every year.
The main activities within the Plzeň region include sponsorship of the ice hockey club HC Škoda Plzeň. Škoda Transportation is the general partner of this hockey team which regularly takes the top places of the Czech Extraliga. Škoda started to support Plzeň ice hockey in the 2009/2010 season. Since then the hockey players have been wearing the winged arrow logo on their jerseys.
The Plzeň ice hockey club, however, already bore the Škoda name for almost thirty years in the past, from 1965 to 1993. The greatest success came during the period of major social changes in the 1991-1992 season. With the then rising star Martin Straka HC Škoda Plzeň made it through to the finals against Trenčín.
In 2012 Škoda Transportation, as the general partner, decided to expand its cooperation with HC Škoda Plzeň and increased its financial support. As a result, after 19 years, the name of the traditional Plzeň manufacturer of railway vehicles again appeared in the name of the ice hockey club. Already in the first season 2012/2013, when Škoda Transportation became the general partner, the team captain, Martin Straka, scored the winning goal in the overtime of the seventh final play-off game and thus won the premiere title for the Plzeň team.
Škoda Sport Park
The Škoda Transportation company does not support only top-level professional athletes. It is important to provide a space and opportunity to all people who want to spend their leisure time actively. In 2004, when an opportunity to invest in the construction of a multifunctional sports complex Škoda Sport Park arose, Škoda Transportation decided right from the start to join the project as a general partner.
Every year the premises are visited by 40,000 people who can use a wide range of sports facilities. These facilities range from football pitches, through sports fields for basketball, handball and beach volleyball to a terrain for pétanque. Extreme sports enthusiasts can also try a rope center or a climbing tower. Škoda Transportation invested 1.6 million Czech crowns into its construction in 2004.
Currently, the company contributes nearly half a million Czech crowns a year to the overall operation of the Park. Investments in the current appearance of the complex have already amounted to 29 million Czech crowns, but there are further plans on how to make the whole area even more attractive. The municipal district Plzeň 2 - Slovany wants to make two ponds near the river between Škoda Sport Park and the confluence of the Úhlava and Radbuza rivers. A quiet zone with benches and park greenery will be established in their vicinity.

The multifunctional sports complex ŠkodaLand is the newer of the two large sports grounds which bear the name of their general partner, the Škoda Transportation company. The company contributes half a million Czech crowns a year to the smooth operation and running of ŠkodaLand.
The sports ground is located near a dam, and it offers to its visitors the largest skatepark in Plzeň with a wide range of various elements and obstacles. Skaters can also enjoy a four hundred-meter long inline track which meets racing parameters and which is adjusted to meet all the criteria of a professional circuit. It is only the second track in the Czech Republic which meets strict international criteria and where official inline races in any category can be held. Even the successful Czech Olympics team member and speed skater Martina Sáblíková tried the track on the occasion of the opening of ŠkodaLand.
Other available sports grounds at ŠkodaLand include a football pitch, sport fields for beach volleyball, basketball, football tennis, and also a minigolf course.
ŠkodaLand also offers a unique swimming pool - a pond which is suitable for small children and allergic persons thanks to a special system of filtration and chemical-free water treatment. In addition to the people who come to ŠkodaLand exclusively for sport, there are also parents with children who can have fun on a large playground. At the same time there is also a relaxation area for the elderly.

Athletic Club (AK) Škoda Plzeň
Athletics has more than a hundred-year old tradition in Plzeň. The first races were held as a part of the public Sokol exercises as early as 1885. The Škoda brand has been associated with the famous Athletic Club in Plzeň since 1951. Already five years later athletes had their own stadium in Štruncovy sady and could start to collect their first achievements. This was achieved especially by the European champion Alena Prosková, or by one of the biggest icons of the Athletic Club (AK) Škoda Plzeň – Jarmila Nygrýnová.
Support for sport in youth and adult categories is one of the priorities of the Škoda Transportation company which wants to continue supporting young athletes and to motivate them to a better performance.
